Use Energy Efficient Heaters To Lower Fuel Bills
Energy efficient heaters can save you a lot of money in wasted fuel bills over time, and can also help you to play your part in preserving resources and saving the environment. If you live in a cold climate, or a region which experiences severe winters, even a slight savings per unit of heat generated can translate to a significant dollar amount when the bills are due to be paid. Energy efficiency is becoming more important to consumers with each passing day, so there is no shortage of possible solutions to your energy efficient heating needs.
The key to making energy efficient heating systems work for you is to make sure that you are not wasting the heat that you generate. Yes, you will still save money by generating heat more cheaply even if your home is inefficient and wastes much of it, but if you are going to be giving attention to energy efficiency you may as well get the entire system right and save as much money as possible. It is obviously going to be easier to create an insulating barrier against heat loss in a new construction than it is with an existing building, but depending on your will and your budget there is much which can be done.
As heat rises, the most important area of a home to get right is the roof. This is not that difficult to do, as most roofing materials have a high degree of insulating quality. The main point is to make sure that there are no gaps in the material where heat can escape. If you have an older roof you can still benefit from switching to a more modern material, but if you don’t want to change the appearance of your home or go to that expense you can always have roof insulation fitted. You can also have replacement windows fitted with Low-E glass.
Once you have made sure that the heat you generate will not be leaking out excessively into the yard or the street, you will be gaining the greatest benefit from the energy efficient heaters you install. There has been dramatic progress made in recent years in heating technology, and both gas and electric heaters can now use thermostats and timer switches to make sure that they are only in use when needed. You can also save money by leaving heating off in rooms which are only occasionally used, and having a fan hearer or halogen heater which you can just switch on when you need it.
One little-known and rarely published way of improving the effectiveness of your heating system is to recycle the hot air at the top of a room to the bottom. As hot air rises, it quickly moves to a part of the room where it will have little benefit, namely close to the ceiling. If you create a thin tube with openings at the top and bottom, and then use an electric fan at the top to suck in hot air and blow it back to the bottom, you will be saving more on your heating than the expense of running the small fan.
The government is actively promoting energy efficient heaters as a way of preserving our resources, and new heating systems should be marked to denote their potential to save you power and money. This is not the only consideration, as it is important to know how quickly a heater gets up to full power. Electric fan heaters are best in this regard, as they can get up to full power almost instantly. This makes then ideal for rooms which are infrequently used. They can also be amongst the most cost effective and energy efficient heaters.
